Milestone PrestoCHILL for frozen sections

Friday, 31 July, 2015 | Supplied by: abacus dx

The Milestone PrestoCHILL is said to make the rapid freezing process fast and simple while keeping the ‘true to life’ microscopic appearance of tissues. The device utilises a combination of face-down embedding with a rapid Stirling cooling device at -40°C.

Freezing is standardised at -40°C for all types of tissues, even for the most difficult to cut at the cryostate (breast, lymph nodes). Moulds are changed out rapidly with a range of different sizes and designs. Four biospecimens can be frozen simultaneously in only 60 s.

Safety features include no use of liquid nitrogen, CO2 and no isopentane, as well as no operations inside the cryostat chamber during the freezing step. The product also features a USB port, enabling both updating of software and downloading of event logs for full documentation.
