A conference in the US will focus on developing strategies to open scientific study and work to women beyond the present efforts, which often seem sporadic and disjointed.
The event draws on recent research that charts great strides made by women in scientific and technical fields, but also shows how that trajectory has stalled, despite new programs to increase women's participation in these fields.
According to the study's findings, women constitute 46% of the U.S. workforce, but hold only 12% of science and engineering jobs in business and industry. The study also found that women comprise less than 10% of full professors in sciences today, despite the fact that they have been earning more than 25% of the Ph.D.s in science for the past 30 years.
