ASTM to hold meeting on industrial biotechnology standards

Thursday, 20 March, 2014

ASTM International, at the request of the Society of Chemical Manufacturers and Affiliates (SOCMA), will hold an organisational meeting to explore the establishment of a new ASTM standards development activity for industrial biotechnology.

The no-fee meeting will be held on 15 April at 9 am in West Conshohocken, Pennsylvania (11 pm AEDT) and virtual participation is available upon request. Key stakeholders are invited to attend with the goal of charting a path towards the development of a consensus standardisation program for industrial biotechnology.

The objectives of the meeting are to:

  • Bring industry experts together;
  • Identify specific standards needs;
  • Develop and approve title, scope and structure;
  • Determine if ASTM should organise activity.

ASTM’s neutral forum allows the private and public sectors to work together to develop a consensus standards program. Full consensus standards will benefit stakeholders throughout the entire industrial biotechnology value chain, from the genome to the supply chain. Involvement from all interested parties is critical to guide the direction of this new activity.
