Federal Minister for Industry Ian Macfarlane has announced the appointment of Penny Dobson as a new member of the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO) board.

Dobson is a global executive from the healthcare sector with 35 years’ experience in Australia, Japan, New Zealand and the US. Macfarlane noted, “She is a former vice president and head of marketing of a Japanese subsidiary of Merck and Co Inc, one of the world’s largest pharmaceuticals companies.”

Dobson is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. She has a Master of Business Administration from Macquarie University and a Diploma of Pharmacy from New Zealand. She is a registered pharmacist in Australia and New Zealand.

According to Macfarlane, Dobson’s “business expertise and international marketing experience” will help ANSTO realise the potential of its new nuclear medicine facility, due to open in late 2016, “and ensure that ANSTO can continue to make a vital contribution to the health and wellbeing of Australians and the international community”.

“I congratulate Ms Dobson on her appointment and look forward to working with her and the board to ensure that ANSTO continues to be an internationally recognised science and technology organisation that produces life-saving medicine and also facilitates research across fields like health, mining and the environment,” Macfarlane said.
