Trajan completes SGE acquisition

Trajan Scientific and Medical has completed its acquisition of the chromatography and liquid handling businesses of SGE Analytical Science. SGE was founded by Ern Dawes in Melbourne in 1961 and has remained in the Dawes family for over 50 years.

The business, focused on components and consumables used in scientific analysis, has grown to around 300 staff worldwide, with manufacturing operations in the Melbourne suburb of Ringwood and subsidiary offices in the US, Europe and Japan. Trajan has now acquired the Ringwood site, sites and operations in Europe and the US, and all shareholdings in the subsidiaries.

Dawes Holdings, the parent company of SGE, owned by Peter Dawes, will retain a range of assets, including the ETP Electron Multiplier business. SGE will continue to work closely with ETP and provide global support and distribution services as is the case today.

According to its CEO, Stephen Timisich, Trajan aims “to bring together a group of leading companies with a common focus in the areas of biological, environmental and food analysis”. The company acquired the pathology consumables business of Grale Scientific in October 2011.
