Drummond Scientific offers a choice of either plastic or plastic-coated hematocrit tubes to improve blood collection safety.

Hemato-Clad hematocrit tubes combine the precision of glass with the safety provided by a Mylar overwrap. Using Hemato-Clad tubes, the chance of contamination due to glass fragments or aerosols is greatly reduced. Accidental breakage is reduced particularly when pressing the tube into sealing clay. In the event of breakage, the Mylar wrapping will help contain the sample (blood) and provide an added layer of protection against cuts from broken glass.

Plasticrit plastic hematocrit tubes provide the identical capillary action as glass hematocrit tubes. They eliminate the possibility of contamination due to breakage without compromising accuracy. Both the Hemato-Clad and Plasticrit ranges of hematocrit tubes from Drummond are available plain or heparinised.
