The Aurora nephelometer is designed for use in backscatter global warming studies. It allows the analysis of aerosols by measuring their backscattering effect on light.
The nephelometer measures particulates in three different wavelengths: blue, for fine and ultra-fine particulates such as wood fires and automobiles; green, for visibility effects such as smog, fog and haze; and red, for large particulates such as pollen and sea salt.
The instrument is available in the 1000 model, which measures only one of the three wavelengths, or the 3000 model, which measures all three simultaneously. They contain an LED light source which requires minimal power, resulting in a compact and portable device suitable for field studies.
