The Revolve microscope from Discover Echo is claimed to be the world’s first hybrid microscope, combining four microscopes into one. It easily transforms between upright, inverted, transmitted light and fluorescence imaging requirements, reducing equipment costs while freeing up valuable laboratory space.
The upright configuration can be used for viewing glass slides and is useful for water dipping and oil immersion applications. The inverted observation method is suitable for viewing live samples in fluidic chambers such as dishes and well plates. It also allows for easier manipulation of samples and is useful for long working distance applications.
For brightfield observations, high-level detail and vivid colour are achievable with a 12 MP colour camera. Fluorescence observations utilise a 5 MP monochrome sCMOS camera and no darkroom is required.
A 12.9″ Liquid Retina Touch display replaces eyepieces and drives cameras and illumination, thus replacing manual turrets and levers. Software updates are available via the App Store. Date transfer is easy via USB, AirDrop or file sharing. Revolve also allows users to capture and view multichannel Z stacks, with the raw data, MIP and EDF all in one dataset ready to annotate or export.
Echo’s proprietary Digital Haze Reduction (DHR) software module reveals fine details by suppressing noise and reducing blur to provide clear image enhancement. Confluency AI is built directly into the microscope through the software. Designed for everyday cell culture workflows, it enables users to return a quantitative cell-coverage percentage the moment they capture an image, with no guesswork and no inconsistency.
The Revolve microscope includes a remote focus knob for fine focus, image capture and auto-exposure. It also includes a repeatable camera, LED light settings and an anti-shake feature that leverages a built-in accelerometer to minimise the effect of external vibrations prior to image capture.
Environmentally friendly, the motorised Epi-fluorescence turret offers mercury-free illumination of ultra-bright LEDs with a 50,000 h lifespan. Sample Protect Mode allows the user to control a sample’s exposure to excitation light. Five imaging channels are available — four Epi-fluorescence and one transmitted light.
