AB SCIEX QTRAP 5500 LC/MS/MS System

The AB SCIEX QTRAP 5500 LC/MS/MS system, using eQTM electronics, is designed for metabolite identification, detection and confirmation of low-level pesticides, and protein/peptide quantitation for biomarker verification and validation.

The system houses the Linear Accelerator trap, said to be the most sensitive ion trap, and provides ultrafast scan speeds and full MS3 capabilities.

Benefits include: perform multiple reaction monitoring (MRM); identify, characterise and quantitate metabolites more quickly and easily; discover and quantitate targeted biomarkers; enable high-sensitivity full-scan MS, MS/MS and MS3 with high selectivity from true triple quadrupole precursor ion (PI) and neutral loss (NL) scans.

Its LINAC collision cell technology improves the extraction efficiency to yield up to a 100x gain in sensitivity in ion trap scan modes. Its 20,000 Da/s scan speeds and good LIT sensitivity allow users to generate good results. Improved excitation efficiencies and reduced ion cooling and fragmentation times give good MS3 qualitative results and provide selectivity for challenging analytical assays.

The system will fit seamlessly into a lab’s workflow and, together with Analyst software, provides a full complement of features to simplify every aspect of methods development, data acquisition and processing, including flexible control of popular LC platforms and 21 CFR Part 11 compliance. The system design enables plug-and-play sources to accommodate a wide range of applications and flow rates. Available application software includes Cliquid, LightSight, MRMPilot and MultiQuant.

The system reduces the challenges of metabolite identification for the drug discovery and development pipeline. Its enhanced speed and sensitivity enables more efficient workflow possibilities for metabolite identification. The predictive MRM (pMRM) approach and the use of multiple precursor ion and/or neutral loss survey scans in a single analysis, including polarity switching, improves finding and identifying lower-level metabolites.

By using the MIDAS workflow that utilises QTRAP system capabilities along with MRMPilot software, developing MRM assays takes only days, not weeks, and no peptide or protein standards are needed.

The system is suitable for research use only - not for use in diagnostic procedures.
