The Agilent 1290 Infinity liquid chromatography system has been designed to deliver greater power, speed and sensitivity for enhanced performance in the high-end ultra high performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC) market.

The 1290 Infinity LC enables separations in seconds with the limits of detection for pharmaceutical impurities as low as 0.001% relative to the main compound using the new diode array detector. This is more than one order of magnitude lower than required by the US FDA.

The Agilent 1290 Infinity delivers a large analytical power range with a pressure range to 1200 bar and flows of up to 5 mL/min, enabling users to deploy any particle type, any column dimensions or any mobile and stationary phases. This range provides high separation power per time for sub-two-micron and other advanced particle columns. It also delivers the foundations for method transferability from and to any vendor’s UHPLC and HPLC systems.

The system combines new pump, sampler and detector technologies. Solvent delivery is optimised by smooth flow control and Jet Weaver microfluidic mixing technology to reduce baseline noise and delay volume.

The autosampler is based on the next generation of Flow-Through design, providing high precision for both very small and large injection volumes without loop changes. The UV diode array detector features high sensitivity as the module uses a Max-Light Cartridge Cell with optofluidic waveguides to provide a low limit of detection and a high signal-to-noise ratio. The system is optimised for use with LCMS ‘out of the box’ and delivers sample throughput of up to 2000 samples in a typical 8 h shift.
