The LBM-7 manual manipulator by Scientifica offers seven axes of movement — four linear and three rotational — in order to deliver precision across a wide range of experimental needs. Whether positioning extracellular probes, aligning perfusion systems, impaling oocytes for two electrode voltage clamp (TEVC) studies or carrying out microinjection, the device can be customised to suit the user’s own experiments.

The product bridges the gap between coarse manipulators and micromanipulators, offering fingertip control with accuracy of less than a micron. It is small and sturdy, with a stable design that means the user can maintain the position of their probe during long-term experiments. With a wide range of accessories, the system can be customised into the specific configuration required — including left- or right-handedness.

The simple mounting method means the product can be confidently added into any new or existing set-up. It can also be used in conjunction with Scientifica’s in vivo manipulator IVM-1000. The unit can easily be attached to a wide range of mounting platforms, including anti-vibration tables and Scientifica mounting systems. Mounting holes fit industry standard 25 mm or 1″ hole spacing.

The robust structure of the device minimises drift and provides precise, repeatable electrode placement. Scientifica uses pre-loaded linear bearings in the stages of the system for absolute accuracy and reliability. A mechanical memory system allows the user to return exactly to the same position after rotating away from the experimental area, so pipette and electrode exchange can be accomplished in seconds. This helps to save time, improve productivity and enable absolute accuracy for consistent results.
