Scientifica VistaScope multiphoton scan head
Scientifica’s VistaScope is a multiphoton scan head combining the flexibility of a multiphoton microscope that enables high-resolution imaging over a wide wavelength range with the large field of view of mesoscopes. Mesoscale imaging can thus be performed without needing a dedicated mesoscope. Researchers can perform in vivo and in vitro structural and functional imaging, using any wavelength required. With optics coated for 700–1700 nm, both two- and three-photon imaging can be performed.
The product enables researchers to see twice as many cells compared to the closest competitor, the company claims. The field of view number of 40 (corresponding to a 2.9 mm sample field of view when using a 10x objective) means entire brain regions can be visualised, with performance close to that of a mesoscope. The even illumination means the entire field of view can be seen clearly, with no darkening towards the edges, facilitating the collection of high-quality data.
Simultaneous imaging and stimulation, independent of wavelength, can be performed. Two identical scan paths allow researchers to image and stimulate precise regions of interest, varying the wavelengths as their experiments require, for flexible research.
The unit is slimline and compact. Researchers can start with a simple SliceScope upright microscope for wide-field fluorescence and electrophysiology, and upgrade by adding a VistaScope scan head as their experiments develop. Due to the modular design, which incorporates conjugated scanning mirrors, the versatile device can be upgraded to the latest technologies as they emerge. The futureproof imaging system thus gives researchers complete flexibility.
