Polymer Standards Service (PSS) reference materials
PSS is a manufacturer of aqueous and organic reference polymers, specialty polymers and customer-designed polymers in a wide range of molar masses. The company’s selection includes: homopolymers with narrow or broad molecular mass distribution; copolymers (eg, block copolymers, random copolymers, terpolymers); branched (co)polymers (eg, stars, combs, graft copolymers, dendrimers, hyper branched polymers); end-functionalised (co)polymers and macro monomers; deuterated (co)polymers; tactic polymers; and polymer networks.
The reference materials are characterised extensively by modern analytical methods such as GPC/SEC, laser light scattering, viscometry, mass spectrometry, VPO and NMR. Each product comes with a quality certificate, which provides the characterisation information. The signed certificates include important testing parameters, the molecular weight values (Mn, Mw, Mp, PDI) and the chromatogram with the parameters (conditions) at which the data was obtained.
The materials are used for a large variety of applications, including: calibration of organic or aqueous GPC/SEC columns; calibration and validation of measuring instruments like scattering detectors and MALDI-ToF-instruments; GPC/SEC system suitability tests; investigation of macroscopic properties and applications parameters that are influenced by molar mass, polydispersity, tacticity, end groups or branching; investigation of polymer degradation and its mechanism; experimental tests of model calculations; and investigation of miscibility behaviour of polymer blends.
