Supercritical Fluid Technologies SFT-110 and SFT-110XW supercritical fluid extractors

The SFT-110 and SFT-110XW supercritical fluid extractors (SFEs), from Supercritical Fluid Technologies, are entry-level systems which possess many features typically found in more advanced SFE equipment. They may be used for a variety of applications, from basic research to process development.

Both SFEs may be operated at pressures up to 10,000 psi (68.9 MPa) and feature an ambient temperature up to 200°C. The SFT-110 accommodates 5 to 100 mL extraction vessels, while the SFT-110XW accommodates 5 to 500 mL extraction vessels.

It is possible to configure the SFT-110XW with a wide range of vessels volumes, making the product suited to both analytical-scale SFE applications and basic process development work. With a 500 mL vessel, the unit can extract low levels of key components from materials and process larger amounts of bulk material than would be possible with smaller, analytical-scale SFE equipment. For greater versatility, the device may be configured for dual vessels in series or parallel operation.

The extractors are said to utilise the latest variable restrictor valve (back pressure regulator) technology, providing precise control over the flow rate of the expanding gas. This is essential for obtaining highly reproducible results. Flow rates can range from 0.01 to 24 mL/min (0.008 to 18 g/min) of liquid CO2 under typical operating conditions.
