Authenticated cell lines

Thursday, 01 October, 2009 | Supplied by: Merck

In collaboration with the European Collection of Cell Cultures (ECACC) and its partners, Sigma-Aldrich now offers access to approximately 700 authenticated cell lines from ECACC’s general collection. The most commonly used lines are now stored in Australia and available within days, rather than weeks, of ordering.

It is not unusual for laboratories to share cell lines, however, there are significant and increasing risks in doing so. Cell lines exchanged between laboratories may no longer be authenticated and some have been shown to be an entirely different species. Easy and affordable access to authenticated cell lines enables researchers to ensure that they are working with valid cell lines at all times.

Local storage of cell lines also eliminates substantial importation, freight and handling fees.
