Cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterase (CNPase) plays a crucial role in myelin synthesis and degradation, neuronal health and regulating signalling molecules in the nervous system. Beyond myelin-producing cells, CNPase functions extend to non-myelinating cell membranes across various organs such as spleen, liver, heart and skeletal muscles. CNPase has been used as a marker in neuroprotective studies, drug studies, cell culture studies, myelin research, neurodegenerative disease research and remyelination studies.
