Norgen Biotek Bacterial EV Isolation Kit
Bacterial extracellular vesicles (bEVs) are critical for understanding microbial communication, antibiotic-resistance transfer and host–pathogen interactions. However, isolating EVs from bacterial culture media has remained technically challenging, typically requiring ultracentrifugation or precipitation methods that are time-consuming, low-yield and difficult to standardise.
Norgen Biotek, considered a leader in EV isolation from bodily fluids such as urine, blood and saliva, has now released its first commercially available kit specifically designed to isolate extracellular vesicles from bacterial samples. The Bacterial EV Isolation Kit enables researchers to isolate extracellular vesicles directly from bacterial culture media using a purpose-built workflow that eliminates the need to adapt mammalian EV protocols.
Powered by Norgen’s silicon carbide resin technology, the kit rapidly purifies extracellular vesicles ranging from 30 to 400 nm using a streamlined slurry-based method that requires no ultracentrifugation. Its flexible workflow accommodates input volumes between 5 and 35 mL, supporting stable performance across sample volumes and enabling researchers to increase EV and RNA yield simply by processing more starting material.
Purified vesicles are suitable for various downstream molecular applications, including real-time PCR and NGS when paired with Norgen’s Exosomal RNA Isolation Kit for EV RNA purification. This workflow provides consistent results, high EV and RNA yields, and detection of bacterial EV-sized particles. Overall, the kit provides researchers with an accessible and reproducible platform for advancing microbiome research, host–pathogen studies, and diagnostic applications.
