Synaptogenesis Kit for cell-based image analysis

Thursday, 17 September, 2009 | Supplied by: Thermo Fisher Scientific

The Thermo Scientific Cellomics Synaptogenesis High Content Screening (HCS) Reagent Kit has been added to the range of Cellomics HCS reagent kits. The kit enables simultaneous detection of neuronal population, neurite, pre-synaptic vesicle, post-synaptic puncta and synapse using a fixed end-point assay that is based on immunofluorescence detection in cells grown on standard high-density microplates.

The kit has been specifically designed to enable drug discovery and systems biology researchers to uniquely measure synaptic function utilising the full benefit of a sophisticated new technology in high-content cell-based image analysis.

Offering simplicity and streamlined preparation of quality samples in the laboratory, the kit has been optimised with a Thermo Scientific ArrayScan HCS reader that uses the Neuronal Profiling BioApplication software module to identify the synapse measured by colocalisation of the pre-synaptic marker with the post-synaptic marker.

The Synaptogenesis kit has been validated in cellular imaging assays for reliable and reproducible results and it works on all HCS platforms, offering flexibility in end-user instrumentation. In addition to HCS instruments, cells labelled by the kit reagents can be viewed and analysed by other fluorescence microscopes. The kit also saves research time because it requires no optimisation of assay development.
