International Year of Chemistry highlights importance of water
The United Nations has declared 2011 as the International Year of Chemistry (IYC 2011).
Under the theme ‘Chemistry - Our Life, Our Future’ the IYC 2011 celebrates the achievements of chemistry and its contributions to the wellbeing of human kind. In Australia, a nationwide program of events, tours, exhibitions and activities will be rolled out in 2011 by the Royal Australian Chemical Institute.
Of particular note is the launch of the Global Experiment - Water: A Chemical Solution. This international initiative aims to unite around the globe and highlight the role that chemistry plays in issues of water quality and purification.
