The HyperStack Cell Culture Vessel is the latest addition to Corning’s High Yield PERformance (HYPER) Platform. This product line combines the best of two Corning products; the CellStack Culture Chamber and HyperFlask vessel. The use of gas-permeable film technology in the CellStack Culture Chamber allows the HyperStack vessel to be an efficient, scalable cell culture vessel for adherent cell culture.

The vessel is a closed system that allows fluid manipulations to occur through preassembled tubing sets. Two 9.5 mm ID tubing ports for filling and venting allow filling via bag assembly, sterile bottle connection or pumping. The attached vent filters are 0.2 µm pore, hydrophobic membranes that allow air displacement during filling while minimising the risk of contamination.

The HyperStack vessel can be used to grow engineered, primary and stem cells. The vessel provides a greater than 2.5 times increase in growth area vs. a stacked plate product of the same volumetric footprint. The HyperStack-12 has 6000 cm2 growth area, the 36 has 18,000 cm2 growth area and the 120 has 60,000 cm2 of growth area. By increasing the surface area, users are able to produce more cells from the same cell population or lot and reduce variability. They are also able to save space and/or labour by using fewer vessels to achieve the same cell output, or increase cell output without adding people, cleanroom suites or incubators.
