Amar Equipment cell disruption vessel range
Amar Equipment’s range of cell disruption vessels offers a gentle method for homogenising or fractionating mammalian and other membrane-bound cells. Vessels are constructed in stainless steel 316 with working volumes from 25 mL to 25 L.
Cell suspension within a vessel is subjected to high-pressure nitrogen gas. Being inert there is no oxidation of any labile cell components as they saturate. When pressure is suddenly released, expanding nitrogen gas bubbles come out of solution and stretch membranes of each cell until they rupture and release their contents.
As each cell is exposed to the same pressure, disruption is uniform. Operating in a single process, there is no continued attrition that might denature the sample as occurs with ultrasonic methods.
Since the process does not utilise mechanical shearing, heat damage, chemical and physical stress on delicate sub-cellular components is minimised.
Adjusting nitrogen pressure applied regulates the degree of cell fractionisation. High pressures usually produce total homogenisation and moderate pressures may be used to release nuclei, active mitochondria and other organelles intact.
