Interleukin-6 (IL-6) is a multifunctional cytokine that regulates immune responses, acute phase reactions and hematopoiesis, and may play a central role in host defence mechanisms. It is usually not produced constitutively by normal cells, but its expression is readily induced by a variety of cytokines, lipopolysaccharides or viral infections.
The abnormal production of IL-6 was first suggested to be related to polyclonal B-cell activation with autoantibody production in patients with cardiac myxoma. Since then, IL-6 has been suggested to be involved in the pathogenesis of a variety of diseases and pathologies, including infections, obstetric infections, altered immune systems, proliferative diseases, neoplastic diseases and inflammatory responses.
Diaclone offers IL-6 ELISA kits and sets that are: ultrasensitive (allowing the quantification of low interleukin levels); highly specific (with no cross-reactivity with other human cytokines tested); manufactured under strict quality control (for reproducible results lot after lot); and easy to use (EASYview coloured solutions facilitate the pipetting and filling of Diaclone ELISA plates). They are particularly useful tools for monitoring inflammation disorders.
