The Queensland government is offering $950,000 to local entrepreneurs in its start-up scheme, double the amount offered in previous years.
The state's new deputy premier and state development and innovation minister, Anna Bligh, said this latest round of the Innovation Start-Up Scheme (ISUS) would assist up to 12 recipients, with individual companies eligible for grants of up to $85,000.
Bligh said ISUS was designed to help young Queensland companies develop new and innovative products and services, and had helped 55 to date, including 20 from regional areas.
Previous recipients include University of Queensland spin-off Nanomics BioSystems, which is about to release its first product, OptoPlex, to the market.
