Medical research in Queensland has won a jackpot, with unclaimed first division lotto prizes to be transformed into grants for research and equipment.

Grants of up to AUD$250,000 are now on offer through the new Golden Casket Foundation, a partnership between the state's Golden Casket Lottery Corporation and Queensland treasury. The foundation grants make use of the revenue earned on interest from unclaimed first division lotto prizes.

To be eligible for the grants, organisations must be located in Queensland or partnered with a Queensland medical research institute; undertake medical research as a core function and have qualified and experienced personnel on staff. Applications close October 17.
