Cleft palate gene

Researchers at Imperial College London, have just identified the gene that causes cleft palate, a finding that could improve the diagnosis and treatment of the congenital disorder.

Almost one in six hundred babies are born with a cleft palate in which the two sides of the roof of the mouth do not fuse properly. Researchers at Imperial College London found the gene by using information from the human genome project.
