UNSW will be the first university outside the United States to establish a web-based laboratory for virtual microscopy.

The University's capital grants committee has awarded $260,000 to Professor Denis Wakefield, head of the school of medical sciences, Professor Rakesh Kumar and Dr Brian Freeman, to introduce virtual microscopy to the school.

The grant will be used to refurbish four teaching laboratories with appropriate computer equipment and to provide the large image data sets on a high-speed local server.
