Coeliac Genetic Markers

Sunday, 15 September, 2002 | Supplied by: ELITech Australia & New Zealand

Coeliac disease patients are characterised by a particular immunogenetic profile. DQ2 haplotype is present in up to 90% of coeliac patients, while non-DQ2 coeliac patients are mostly DQ8 haplotype.

The Eu-DQ test system from Eurospital will allow detection of the DQ2 and DQ8 haplotypes. The test is easy to use, sensitive and specific.

Based on a simple PCR-based technique the sample is extracted, amplified with the supplied allele specific primers, run on an agarose gel and read. An internal control is supplied as part of the kit and ensures the correct performance of the test.

Individuals negative for both DQ2 and DQ8 are unlikely to ever develop coeliac disease while those with positive results warrant ongoing monitoring due to their genetic predisposition for coeliac disease.
