The combined fish and daphnia toximeter from bbe is well suited to the rapid detection of wilful or negligent contamination in water systems. The bbe fish and daphnia toximeter can also be used for the long-term monitoring, and the strategic evaluation of water quality.

Live daphnia and zebra fish in separate chambers are observed by video cameras and are analysed online by digital camera images and PC. Toxic events are clearly indicated as alarms. A statistical approach, incorporating chaos theory, enables alarm recognition even under difficult real world conditions, including noisy or slow drift data situations.

The use of two organisms not only improves the statistical significance of the data, but also increases the range and threshold sensitivity for harmful compounds.

The combined fish and daphnia Toximeter can be used in its combined or single organism mode as required.

Options are available to enable remote monitoring, connection to a local area network, or automatic alarm indicators via fax or pager.

The toximeter has been designed to keep maintenance costs to a minimum, and the maintenance interval is more than seven days.
