Imaging Solution

LVEM5 manufactured by Delong America is a novel solution for imaging in life sciences and macromolecular chemistry. The conception of the instrument offers imaging in TEM, STEM, SEM (BSE) or diffractionmodes.

LVEM 5 is a compact desk-top instrument. It consists of three separate parts, namely, the microscope, a power supply and a vacuum system. LVEM 5 is cheaper than a standard TEM. Smaller dimensions, no need for a dark room, no cooling water, easy service; all this makes the instrument affordable for a (large) number of customers.

The design of LVEM 5 differs considerably from that of standard TEMs. A light microscope magnifies further the image from the miniaturized electron optics column. The maximum magnification is 145 000. A YAG scintillator serves as an image converter between the electron and light optics. Overall dimensions of LVEM 5 are comparable with those of a conventional light microscope.

High contrast on light elements is achieved through a substantial decrease of electron energy. An acceleration voltage decrease from 100 kV to 5 kV enhances the contrast of a 20 nm thin carbon film more than 10 times. Spatial resolution of LVEM 5 is 2,5 nm.
