ProteoMetrics plans to develop customised versions of ProFound and Sonar, its most successful protein identification tools, as an extension of the ongoing exclusive OEM deal with Amersham Biosciences.

The software, ProFound Plus and Sonar Plus, will offer improved ease of use and quality-of-result advantages to scientists using the Ettan platform of mass electrometers developed by Amersham Biosciences.

Amersham Biosciences developed the Ettan platform of mass spectrometers to fill the drug discovery market's need for a range of flexible, small footprint and scaleable Maldi-ToF and ESI-ToF mass spectrometers. ProFound Plus and Sonar Plus expand the suite of analytical tools and processes offered from within the Ettan user interface, offering a combination of analytic power and ease of use. Some of the features which will be offered include support for the proprietary, highly enabling Chemistry Assisted Fragmentation (CAF) technology for de novo peptide sequencing and a user administration interface for aligning the algorithms of the ProFound Plus and Sonar Plus search engines to the particular calibration settings of the Ettan systems. Amersham Biosciences has already integrated the standard version of ProFound and the Ettan range of mass spectrometers.

ProFound functions seamlessly with Ettan, rendering very accurate searches from the peptide masses extracted. ProFound Plus and Sonar Plus will be attuned to each Ettan instrument's particular profile, and will be integrated into the Ettan user interface. This will enable users to more easily define search and identification parameters and methodologies, and will deliver better, faster, more reliable results.
