The handheld FTIR system Exoscan provides accurate measurement of anodisation thickness and type on large parts, without the need to dissemble or otherwise modify the part for testing.

In an application note entitled ‘Metal Coatings Analysis using the Exoscan Hand Held FTIR’, the system demonstrates why it is suitable for non-destructive analysis of samples that are too large to bring to the laboratory or too valuable to require a small portion to be removed for analysis.

Weighing less than 3.2 kg, the portable device allows even large complex parts to be directly measured in any orientation and can identify and quantify the thinnest anodised coatings, as well as paint and primer coatings on metal surfaces.
