The PANalytical Axios-Poly is a dedicated x-ray analysis system that meets the needs of XRF (x-ray fluorescence spectrometry) analysis in the plastics and polymers industry. Offering high levels of precision and versatility, the Axios-Poly is suitable for all XRF applications. It is simple to operate, and the compact design can easily be integrated into laboratories.

Axios-Poly is a fully integrated, wavelength-dispersive x-ray fluorescence system. It is designed for accurate and rapid elemental analysis of a variety of additives such as pigments, flame-retardants (UV) stabilisers and catalysts as well as heavy metals in all kinds of plastics and polymers. It achieves this economically and effectively for concentrations ranging from percentage down to sub-ppm levels.

Key to its capability are two sets of standards, developed by PANalytical and DSM Resolve. The ADPOL standards are an integral component of Axios-Poly, designed for the calibration of important additive elements like F, Na, Mg, Al, Si, P, S, Ca, Ti, and Zn in plastics and polymers. The TOXEL standards are an option, designed for the calibration of toxic heavy elements like Cr, Ni, Cu, Zn, As, Br, Cd, Ba, Hg and Pb in polyethylene. As such, they are suitable for applications set up to monitor or control the concentration of elements strictly regulated by environmental directives like RoHS and WEEE.

Axios-Poly runs on version 4.0 of PANalytical's SuperQ software. Application templates and worked examples for typical plastics and polymers applications are included in the Axios-Poly database. This allows applications to be set up quickly without extensive prior knowledge of the software.

SuperQ has a modular design, with optional sub-programs like IQ+, for standardless analysis of a wide variety of samples; SPC (statistical process control) for monitoring trends in analytical data; and UAI (universal automation interface) that enables the integration of Axios-Poly in automated laboratories. SuperQ is easy to use with an intuitive interface and menu. It enables all day-to-day operations to be carried out by inexperienced personnel after minimal instruction.

Axios-Poly can handle up to 168 samples at a time and is based on a compact, ergonomic design that is highly accessible and manoeuvrable, with reduced noise levels. Thus it is easily integrated into automated laboratories, or easily operated as a standalone system.
