Bio-Rad Molecular Imager Gel Doc XR+ System

Monday, 30 November, 2009 | Supplied by: Bio-Rad Laboratories Pty Ltd

An emerging trend in molecular biology is the move away from ethidium bromide staining and UV visualisation to the use of optimised fluorescent stains and less harmful illumination.

The Gel Doc XR+ electrophoresis documentation system incorporates the blue light-generating XcitaBlue Screen, an advancement allowing the visualisation of safe excitable stains such as Gel Green, SYBR Safe and SYBR Green. Replacing UV with blue light is not only safer but helps preserve the samples for specific downstream applications such as cloning, transfections and protein production.
