GelRed and GelGreen nucleic acid gel stains combine sensitivity, safety and stability.

GelRed is a red fluorescent nucleic acid dye designed to replace the highly toxic ethidium bromide (EB) for gel staining. Because GelRed and EB have virtually the same spectra, you can directly replace EB with GelRed without having to change your existing imaging system. GelRed can be used for either post gel staining or precast gel staining.

Since its introduction in 2005, GelRed has been developed with the following new features:

  • Available at 10,000x in H2O for better safety
  • Room temperature storage for better convenience
  • New post staining protocol for even better sensitivity and convenience

GelGreen is a new green fluorescent gel stain with the sensitivity of SYBR® Green I and can be excited by a laser-based gel scanner or a Dark Reader. Unlike SYBR Green I that degrades during storage even at low temperature or following freeze-thaw cycles, GelGreen can be stored at room temperature.
