AIMS medical science awards launched in Queensland

Tuesday, 12 April, 2016

The first ever AIMS (Australian Institute of Medical Scientists) Queensland & Tropical Division Annual Awards for Excellence in Medical Science will recognise and celebrate the excellence of people working in the medical science profession.

AIMS President Robyn Wells said the awards will showcase the astounding work performed by the “quiet achievers” in the medical laboratory science industry, who are frequently unrecognised for their high-quality work and the dedication to patient care and outcomes.

Medical science professionals are invited to nominate for the following categories:

  • Trajan Medical Scientist of the Year
  • Laboratory Technician of the Year
  • Phlebotomist of the Year
  • Laboratory Assistant of the Year
  • Medical Science Woman of the Year
  • Young Medical Scientist of the Year (under 30)
  • Regional/Remote Scientist of the Year
  • Medical Science (Researcher) of the Year
  • Medical Science Graduate of the Year

Award recipients will be assessed based on their outstanding contribution to medical science in the areas of professional commitment and excellence, service and research and innovation in the state of Queensland.

Nominations will be open from Wednesday, 13 April until COB 17 June 2016. The awards night will be held on 14 July in Brisbane.

The news follows the signing of a memorandum of understanding between AIMS and the UK Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS) late last month. The MoU is intended to strengthen the partnership between the two organisations for the benefit of members, the global biomedical science community and the profession.
