Chocolate slime at ANSTO this Easter
The Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO), located in Sydney’s Sutherland Shire, is once again holding its Easter school science workshops.
To be held three times a day from 22 to 24 April, the workshops provide an opportunity for young scientists to participate in some educational, tasty and slightly messy Easter fun.
Over an 80-minute session, participants will:
- compete in an egg drop, designing ways to protect an egg then dropping it to see if it worked;
- watch chocolate bunnies and crème eggs get sucked into vacuum jars;
- create edible chocolate ‘slime’; and
- make colour patterns with the Smarties colour wheel.
“These workshops are a slimy and tasty way of getting kids excited about science and the art of conducting an experiment,” said Rod Dowler from ANSTO’s Discovery Centre.
The workshops cost $10 a person and are designed for children aged 8-14 years. Children must have an accompanying adult, for whom entry is free.
“Bookings in advance are absolutely essential, and I encourage parents and carers to get in now,” said Dowler.
