The Australian Institute of Medical Scientists (AIMS) has announced the finalists of the inaugural AIMS Medical Science Awards for Queensland.
As explained by AIMS Acting President Professor Tony Badrick, the awards will recognise and celebrate the excellence of people working in the medical science profession. They will also help spread awareness of these silent heroes of the healthcare system and acknowledge the pathology work that underpins and ensures quality health outcomes for Queenslanders.
The finalists for the awards come from across Queensland and are as follows:
- Anahita Aboonabi (Gold Coast)
- Callum Buttrose (Longreach)
- Elizabeth Correlje (Brisbane)
- Kathryn Eckersley (Rockhampton)
- Robert Horwood (Gold Coast)
- Glen Lynch (Sunshine Coast)
- Lloyd Magpayo (Brisbane)
- Jeff Milburn (Maryborough)
- Russell Morrison (Gympie)
- Deborah Orr (Mackay)
- Wayne Pederick (Rockhampton)
- Richard Bradbury (now based in Atlanta)
- Indu Singh (Gold Coast)
- Kiara Thompson (Rockhampton)

Dr Geoff Garrett, Queensland’s Chief Scientist, said he was pleased to see a number of finalists from regional areas of the state.
“With so much activity in the south-east, we often overlook the significant and quality medical science taking place in regional and remote Queensland,” Dr Garrett said. “I’m looking forward to meeting all the finalists at the awards ceremony and learning about the contribution they have made to improve the health of all Queenslanders. It will be an enlightening night for all in the audience.”
The awards night is being held on 14 July in Brisbane at the corporate offices of ANZ, the principal sponsor of the event. For more information, click here.
