VirTis Advantage Pro freeze dryer

Freeze drying consists of three main process steps: the freezing step, a main drying step and a final drying step. During the freezing step, freezing speed, time and temperature govern the ice structure, which in turn affects subsequent drying parameters and achievable process outcomes.

Common methods such as snap-freezing in liquid nitrogen or freezing in deep freezers are not considered best practice; however, users often have no alternative as standard benchtop laboratory freeze dryers do not offer the ability to freeze the product. Scitek has announced the launch of the VirTis Advantage Pro benchtop high-performance freeze dryer.

The freeze dryer is a platform which, while compact in size, performs all three process steps in one program. It features liquid temperature-controlled shelves, which can first freeze a product under suitable conditions before drying the sample effectively and as fast as possible. For small sample sizes and volumes, not having to transfer from a deep freezer or liquid nitrogen bath onto a to-be-started freeze dryer at atmospheric conditions can mean the difference between sample loss and successful process.

The product is capable of reproducing complex drying cycles satisfying even pharmaceutical industry formulation development. For universal use, flask-drying ports can be mounted on the side to offer good application coverage in a shared-user environment.

The Intellitronics colour touch-screen user interface is simple to use while offering full programmability of all parameters. Via ethernet connection, the freeze dryer can document all process parameters. Free remote control software is available so users can monitor the process from their desk. Scitek engineers can log onto the freeze dryer remotely to provide application and technical assistance as well as remote troubleshooting.
