The Postnova PN3310 Viscometer detector is an intrinsic viscosity detector for size-exclusion chromatography (SEC/GPC) and field-flow fractionation (FFF) systems. It is based on the Wheatstone-Bridge design for measuring the intrinsic viscosity of macromolecules in solution.

The viscometer detector features good performance due to its highly sensitive pressure transducers. The special pressure sensor protection system (PSP) automatically avoids critical overpressure on the pressure transducers. This hardware speciality allows the instrument to show good baseline stability with low drift and high signal-to-noise ratio.

The viscometer detector allows connections with up to four analog signals from external detectors (eg, RI, UV, fluorescence). The instrument is fully controlled by the powerful and user-friendly NovaMALS software that can integrate additional detectors such as multi-angle light scattering (MALS), refractive index (RI) and UV absorbance.

With its modular, flexible and compact design, the versatile unit can become part of a ‘triple detection system’ with MALS and RI or a ‘quadruple detection system’ with an added UV absorbance instrument. Using the PN3310 in combination with the above detectors will provide the user with the molecular size (hydrodynamic, gyration) and structure (shape, branching) of macromolecules. With the NovaMALS software, the Mark-Houwick plot (molecular weight vs IV) can be derived, providing a large amount of information about the size, shape, structure and molecular weight of macromolecules in solution.
