Buccal swabs

The nylon flocked buccal swabs from MicroRheologics are suitable for applications where the sample size is particularly small or where increased sensitivity is required.

Traditional compacted fibre swabs retain some of the sample trapped in the compressed fibres, limiting subsequent sample analysis and resulting in loss of results. Using a ‘spray on’ technology, the short strands of nylon in the flocked swabs are propelled at high velocity onto the plastic-moulded swab tip, forming a high-density, brush-like pile. The depth of these fibres ensures the sample is held close to the swab surface, allowing an efficient release of cellular and liquid samples.

The swabs are certified RNase and DNase free, making them suitable for molecular analysis.

The sample collection benefits of the nylon swabs in DNA identification are applicable to a wide variety of clinical applications offering more representative, heterogonous sample matter and reducing re-runs. The range of swabs offered includes standard and transport swabs with different shaped tips for various applications.
