RWD’s multichannel fibre photometry system records changes in the fluorescence intensity of neurons in a specific brain area to reflect neuronal population activity. In studies of neural circuits, the fibre photometry system can perform long-term stable monitoring of the neurons of freely moving animals and explores the correlation between neural activity and animal behaviour.

Even though electrophysiology generates a high level of temporal accuracy, its performance falls short in detecting cell-type specific population neuronal activities of the deep brain structures in behaving animals. As an alternative, fibre photometry provides a sensitive and easy way to achieve this function while employing one or more multimode optical fibres implanted in the brain.

The fibre photometry system’s main advantages include a high sensitivity-dual detector + TDM design; simultaneous recording of nine channels; and the acquisition and analysis software enabling stable data acquisition and analysis functions. Feature-rich extensions allow multiple interfaces and various event marking.

The R821 multichannel fibre photometry system has different wavelengths of excited light — 410, 470 or 560 nm — of which 410 is used to acquire a reference signal and eliminate noise. The system can record the signal of a green fluorescence indicator like GCaMP and dLight or a neurotransmitter probe, and a red fluorescence indicator like RCaMP, jrGECO1a or a neurotransmitter probe.

Meanwhile, the R811 dual-colour multichannel fibre photometry system is compatible with optoelectronics equipment. It has different wavelengths of excited light — 410 and 470 nm — of which 410 is used to acquire a reference signal and eliminate noise. The system can record the signal of a green fluorescence indicator like GCaMP and dLight or a neurotransmitter probe.
