Cochlear to launch new implant in EU in June

Cochlear Limited (ASX:COH) will launch its new Nucleus Profile range of cochlear implants in Europe from this month.

The company announced that the Cochlear Nucleus Profile implant with the Contour Advance electrode, the first of the new Profile series, will go on sale in Europe in June.

The company plans to roll out the product to other markets as regulatory approvals are received and introduce more Profile series implants with different electrodes in the coming months.

Global technical, safety and certification services provider TÜV Rheinland has approved the new implant after Cochlear relocated and developed a new production process for its Macquarie University facility.

Cochlear said its Profile series will have the thinnest implant body on the market and will be the platform for its next generation of implants.

It will succeed the Cl500 series of implants, which were the target of a costly product recall in 2011-2012. The Profile series is based on an improved version of this design.

Cochlear (ASX:COH) shares were trading 2.64% higher at $61.45 as of around 1.30 pm on Monday.
