EXODUS H-600 automated exosome isolation system
Extracellular vesicles (EVs), particularly exosomes, are increasingly important in regenerative medicine, drug delivery, biomarker discovery and disease research. As EV studies become more complex, consistent isolation of high-quality exosomes from different biological sources is critical.
The EXODUS H-600 offers an automated, scalable approach to exosome isolation, which should reduce hands-on processing and help improve workflow consistency and reproducibility. In contrast, traditional methods such as ultracentrifugation, precipitation and chromatography can be labour-intensive, with challenges around yield, purity, sample degradation and scalability particularly for larger sample numbers.
The recent study ‘Harnessing bi-exosome combination alleviates osteoarthritis progression’, published in Bioactive Materials (bit.ly/4gcBwjc), used EXODUS to isolate two distinct exosome populations: B-Exo, derived from bone marrow mesenchymal stromal cells and associated with anti-inflammatory effects, and C-Exo, derived from cartilage progenitor cells and associated with cartilage protection. Rather than studying the exosomes individually, the researchers combined them into a dual-exosome formulation, BC-Exo, designed to address multiple aspects of osteoarthritis progression. Their findings demonstrated how exosomes from different cellular sources can potentially provide complementary therapeutic functions when combined.
The study highlights EXODUS as a platform for reproducible isolation of different EV sources, supporting comparative studies, combination therapies and downstream in vitro and in vivo validation. This makes it particularly relevant to research involving MSC-derived exosomes, osteoarthritis and inflammation, engineered EVs and multi-source delivery systems.
