Former Industry, Research and Development Board chairman Dr Terry Cutler has been named as the fourth new appointee to the CSIRO board in the last two months.

Cutler, who is principal of high-tech consultancy Cutler & Co, is also a member of the international advisory panel of Malaysia's Multimedia Super Corridor.

In a statement, Science Minister Peter McGauran said he hoped Cutler's appointment to the CSIRO board would help to expand lines of communication between science and innovation.

He said CSIRO was in the process of developing a new set of initiatives to set clear directions and focus its research efforts.

In late June, the board appointed three new members, two with strong backgrounds in bioscience - WEHI director Prof Suzanne Cory and former Fauldings MD Dr Ed Tweddell. The third new board member, Peter Duncan, is the recently retired chairman of Shell Australia.
