Researchers at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) have discovered a special combination of proteins that can repair tissue twice as fast as the body's natural system.

Dr David Leavesley, QUT, says its application could help repair major wounds from burns accidents or surgery. Moreover, it could save the community billions in dollars spent on health care. "There are 2,000 hip replacements or revisions in Australia each year, now unfortunately at the moment about half of those fail within about 10 years and, ignoring the recuperation time, that's a huge cost to the community, about $1 billion a year," Dr Leavesley said.
