Matrix Technologies has developed a tube identification system that will track and identify samples with ease and with a guaranteed chain of custody.
TrakMate utilises the 2-D Data Matrix code to give each sample tube its own identity. Most modern handheld barcode readers will read the 2-D Data Matrix barcodes that are printed on 1.4 or 0.75 ml TrakMate tubes. For additional security and identification, a 10-digit human readable code is etched around the 2-D Data Matrix code.
The Data Matrix code is produced by laser-etching a black thermally bonded layer, providing a high level of resistance against mechanical, physical, and chemical damage. Additionally, the white on black thermal transfer technique provides high definition and contract resulting in fail-safe scanning, unaffected by the tube contents. Furthermore, Data Matrix's error correction ensures that tubes can be identified even if 25% of the barcode is missing or damaged.
TrakMate tubes can be used in conjunction with either Snap Racks or the automation friendly Latch Racks. An external 2-D barcode is shrink wrapped onto each rack enabling identification of each tube in the rack inside with a single scan.
The Latch Rack's design allows the cover to be lifted off, opened on hinges, or locked down for transport. Both racks feature an open-bottom design allowing users to scan and read tubes without removing them from the rack. In addition to allowing up to 96 codes to be automatically read through the exposed base, the Latch Rack enables the rapid freezing and thawing of samples due to the flow through design.
Collaboration with all major manufacturers of tube store systems, including TAP, REMP and RTS Thurnalls, will ensure implementation of TrakMate technology and enable compound and/or sample management for any high throughput screening environment.
