Storing images in LIMS

Version 5 of LabWare LIMS introduces functionality that allows files including images, pdfs, documents, spreadsheets, videos, sounds, etc, to be stored in the LabWare LIMS database.

While Version 4 of LabWare LIMS allowed users to associate LabWare LIMS data with information stored in files elsewhere on the network - perhaps graphics images or document files such as SOPs, work instructions, material safety data sheets, worksheets, etc - there was a dependency that all users of the system would have access to the network drives where the external files were located. As a result of allowing these files to be stored electronically in the LabWare LIMS database itself, and removing the dependency of users having to have access to the network drives, this has strengthened LabWare's solution for organisations and laboratories requiring their LIMS to operate both at the international and global levels.

Using an example of an organisation with laboratories in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Perth, if a Perth user of LabWare LIMS saved a microscopic image with a sample, users of LabWare LIMS in any of the other laboratories (ie, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane) would be able to view the microscopic image against the sample as well.

Using LabWare's thin client solution, LabWare Web LIMS, would allow that same microscopic image to be viewed from anywhere in the world where an Internet connection was available.
