Cutting Edge Science Symposium: “Natural hydrogen: A new sustainable geo-source of energy for Australia?”

The Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), Australia’s Science Agency, has been conducting research on natural hydrogen for several years independently, and in collaboration with international researchers and industry partners. Australia is currently experiencing an emergence of exploration activities focused on natural hydrogen supported by state and federal agencies and an increasing number of industry players. The trend is becoming global with high demand for low-cost, low-carbon-emitting and renewable energy sources.
CSIRO is hosting a symposium in Perth, Western Australia from 29 November to 1 December 2023, which will bring together a select group of international and Australian experts from academia, industry and government agencies to discuss the extent of our knowledge on natural hydrogen in the subsurface, as well as surface expression and atmospheric emanations.
