GSK opens Award for Research Excellence 2015
The 35th Award for Research Excellence (ARE), sponsored by GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), is now accepting nominations for 2015. The award acknowledges outstanding Australian researchers and their work and is accompanied by an $80,000 grant to assist the winner on their research journey.
The award’s focus is on helping support career development, with an emphasis on human health and Australian research. Successful applicants are generally mid-career researchers with a long-standing commitment to their field, with previous nominees specialising in areas such as immunology, diabetes, epilepsy, cancer and muscular disease.
2014 winner Professor David Craik, a biological chemist from The University of Queensland, said, “Winning the ARE in 2014 provided the funding to help us undertake our all-important ‘blue sky’ research.” Professor Craik joins other prestigious names such as epilepsy researcher Professor Ingrid Scheffer (2013) and paediatric neurologist Professor Kathryn North (2011) as a recipient of the award.
Nominations for 2015 close on 3 July and the winner will be announced on 18 November at the Annual Research Australia Awards, Park Hyatt, Melbourne. For more information, email are.arenominations@gsk.com or visit the GSK ARE website.
