Nominations open for 2015 Eureka Prizes
Parliamentary Secretary for Industry and Science Karen Andrews has called for nominations for the Australian Museum 2015 Eureka Prizes. Presented annually by the Australian Museum since 1990, the comprehensive science awards recognise outstanding achievements in Australian science and science communication.
Andrews said the awards “recognise effective scientific and technological solutions for real-world problems or challenges”. Prizes are open in 16 categories across the areas of research and innovation, leadership, science communication and journalism, and school science.
The Department of Industry and Science sponsors the $10,000 Eureka Prize for Science Journalism, awarded to an Australian journalist (or journalists) who effectively communicates scientific or technological issues to the public; as well as the $10,000 Eureka Prize for Promoting Understanding of Australian Science Research, for scientists who encourage community appreciation of the contribution Australian science makes to our everyday lives.
Two Industry and Science portfolio agencies, the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) and the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO), also sponsor the $10,000 Leadership in Science prize and the $10,000 Innovative Use of Technology prize respectively.
Entries are now open and will close on 1 May 2015 at 7 pm AEST. Finalists will be announced on 24 July and the award dinner will be held on 26 August.
